30 September 1793

Died: At Windsor, on a journey from Northampton, Mr. Saul Alvord, of Bolton, Tavern-keeper, aged 77.

 

AAFA NOTES: Saul Alvord was born in Northampton, MA, 23 Apr 1717 and died in Windsor, CT 28 Sep 1793. He was the son of John Alvord and Dorcas Lyman. Saul married Martha Churchill and they had seven children, some of whom died as infants. Saul was a barber, hairdresser, saddler and tavern keeper. He was a deacon of the church in Bolton. The *1908 Alvord genealogy devotes over a page to him—mostly land transactions. Saul Alvord is the ancestor of AAFA member #1103, Ann Alvord Groves.

Hanover, September 4—Died: In this Vicinity, on the 31st of August, Mr. Aaron Alvord, of the Dysentery, aged 63.

 

AAFA NOTES: This is probably the Aaron Alvord born 28 July 1734 in Springfield, MA, son of Noah Alvord and Hannah Burt. Aaron married Orpha Day on 15 Jan 1761 in Springfield.

Died: At West Hartford Mrs. Amanda Alford, wife of Pelatiah Alford, aged 35.

 

AAFA NOTES: This is Amanda Cadwell who married Pelatiah Alford on 22 Feb 1795 in Hartford, CT. Pelatiah Alford was the son of Pelatiah Alford and Anne Bacon. Amanda was the daughter of Joseph Cadwell and Thankful Sedgewick.

Died: At Windsor on the xst [sic] inst. Clarissa Alford, wife of Mr. William Alford, aged 34 years.

 

AAFA NOTES: Clarissa Griswold born about 1774 was the first wife of William L. Alford. They were married 8 Feb 1802 in Connecticut and had four children. After Clarissa's death William m. (2) Selina Griswold (1782-1821) 3 Apr 1810 by whom there was one child, and m. (3) Maria Barber (1795-1863) 4 July 1837 in Hartford. William, son of Joseph Alford and Lucy Griswold, was born 3 May 1774 and died 26 Dec 1856.

Died: At Chatham, Mr. Reuel Alvord, aged 60.

 

AAFA NOTES: The *1908 Alvord genealogy states that Reuel Alvord died 27 March 1810. He was born in East Hampton the son of Seth Alvord. He married Hanah Hall 15 Nov 1774 in Chatham. Hannah was the daughter of Hannibal Hall. Hannah called Giles Hall her grandfather.

Died: At Bolton, on the 21st ult. Mrs. Eleaner Alvord, aged 57, wife of Capt. Saul Alvord.

 

AAFA NOTES: Saul and Eleanor Kellog married 14 Apr 1778 in Newington, Hartford Co., CT. Eleanor was the daughter of Martin Kellog and Mary Bordman. Saul by tradition was a hair dresser in Northampton, MA. His wife Eleanor made wigs. Saul was a saddler in Bolton.

Died: At Warren District of Maine, Mr. Marble Alford, formerly of Canton in this state, aged 31.

 

AAFA NOTES: Marble was the son of Nathaniel and Abigail Hill Alford and was born 20 Aug 1782 in Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.

AAFA NOTES: This notice is suspiciously similar to the preceding notice for MR. MARBLE Alford and was probably mis-typed in the original. Mrs. Marble Alford was Rosannah Russell.

AAFA NOTES: Harvey was born 24 Aug 1786 in Farmington, Hartford Co., CT, the son of Thomas Gould Alvord and Keziah Orvis.

AAFA NOTES: This is Nathaniel Alford, Jr. son of Nathaniel Alford Sr. and Experience Holcomb. He married to Abigail Hill.

Died: At Warren, Mass. In Nov. last, Deac. Lore Alford, aged 52, formerly of Canton in this state.

 

AAFA NOTES: Deacon Lore Alford, son of Nathaniell Alford Jr. and Abigail Hill, was born 11 Nov 1776, Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT, and died 2 Nov 1818. He was a tanner by trade and married (1) Lydia Montgomery and (2) Betsey P. Harwood.

Died: At Chatham ... Mrs. Sarah Alvord, wife of Mr. Seth Alvord.

 

AAFA NOTES: Sarah Sears Alvord was the second wife of Seth Alvord. She was born 1761 in Chatham, CT and died 2 Feb 1819. She and Seth married 5 Sep 1793. She was the daughter of Ebenezer Sears and Elizabeth Cooke. Seth was born 18 July 1754, and died 14 July 1836. He was the son of Seth Alvord and Elizabeth Spencer. He was a cabinet maker and carpenter.

AAFA NOTES: Abigail Hill Alford, wife of Nathaniel Alford Jr., was born 21 March 1737 in Hartford, CT, the daughter of Joseph Hill. She married Nathaniel Alford Jr. 28 Feb 1760, in Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT.

Died: At Bolton, on the 18th inst. Mrs. Sophia Alvord, aged 35, wife of Mr. Martin Alvord and daughter of the late Benoni Shepherd, of Tolland.

 

AAFA NOTES: Sophia Shepherd Alvord was born 3 Feb 1787, the daughter of Benoni Shepherd and Ann Alvord. Ann was the daughter of Saul and Martha Churchill Alvord of Tolland, Tolland Co., CT. Sophia died 16 June 1822, Bolton, Tolland Co., CT. She married Martin Alvord 14 Apr 1812.

AAFA NOTES: Lucy Miller Alford was born 1 June 1775 in Farmington, Hartford Co., CT, the daughter of Daniel Miller and Lucy Hamlin. She died 12 Dec 1824. She is said to be buried in Cedar Brook Cemetery, Avon, Hartford Co., CT. She and Samuel Alford were married 6 Feb 1793, in Farmington, Hartford Co., CT.

AAFA NOTES: Elephaz/Eliphaz Alvord was b. 13 Jan 1742 in Durham, Middlesex Co., CT, the son of Jonathan Alford and Elizabeth Sanford. He died 15 Apr 1825, in Winchester, Litchfield Co., CT. He married Esther Hart, daughter of Judah Hart, 29 Nov 1764 in East Hampton, Middlesex Co., CT.

AAFA NOTES: Cynthia Hooker Olcott was the second wife of Saul Alvord. She was born 1760 in Farmington, Hartford Co., CT, the daughter of Roger Hooker and Anna Kellogg. She died 27 June 1827, Bolton, Tolland Co., CT. She married Seth Alvord in Feb 1813, East Hartford, Hartford Co., CT.

AAFA NOTES: Mary Cook Alvord was the daughter of James Hall Alvord and Lucy Cook. She was born 16 Feb 1809, Winchester, CT, and died 12 Feb 1830.

AAFA NOTES: Saul Alvord was born 9 July 1753 in Northhampton, Hampshire Co., MA, the son of Saul Alvord and Martha Churchill. He died 23 Sep 1832, Bolton, Tolland Co., CT. Saul and Eleanor Kellog were married 14 Apr 1778 in Newington, Hartford Co., CT. Eleanor was the daughter of Martin Kellog and Mary Bordman.

Deaths: At his residence in Geneva, Ashtabula county, (Ohio) on the 6th inst., after twenty-nine hours of apparently slight suffering, Mr. Dan Alford, aged 63.

 

AAFA NOTES: Dan Alford, son of Josiah Alford and Martha Phelps, was born 24 March 1774 in Simsbury, Hartford Co., CT. Josiah Alford married Martha Phelps 11 Dec 1770.
