SPENCER—Elroy R. Alford, Sr., 78, of Spencer, died March 10, 2013.

            Born May 2, 1934, to Elwood and Althea Alford. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a longtime member of the Catholic Church.

            Elroy is survived by his wife Jan, 3 children, 7 grandchildren, 2 sisters, and many nieces and nephews.

            A Wake Service will be held 5:30 PM, Friday, March 15, 2013, at Barnes Friederich Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 AM, Saturday, March 16, 2013, at St. Teresa Catholic Church in Harrah with burial at Arlington Memory Gardens.

            Elroy was a member of the Absent Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma. His paternal great-grandfather, George Wildcat, added the Alford name after an Alford officer save his life. (We haven't identified the Alford officer.)

            Elroy was an active and enthusiastic AAFA member. He made and donated bird houses and wooden angels as raffle and door prizes for many AAFA annual meetings. He also contributed extensive information on his Native American ancestor, Thomas Wildcat Alford.

            In May 2015, a Find A Grave photographer reported that Elroy has no gravestone.
