            Jacob E. Alford Jr., a retired insurance and theater executive, died Thursday at Christwood Retirement Community in Covington [St. Tammany Parish, LA]. He was 89. Mr. Alford was born in McComb, Miss., and lived in New Orleans and Metairie for many years before moving to Covington. He graduated from the University of Mississippi, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha. He was a Navy lieutenant during World War II. He served on the Louisiana Insurance Rating Commission during the administration of former Gov. David Treen. He was vice president of Gulf States Theaters for 20 years. He was a Rotarian and a member of Metairie Country Club.

            Survivors include his wife, Margaret Treppendahl Alford; a son, Robert Steele Alford of New Orleans; a daughter, Elizabeth Marshall Adams of Mandeville; seven grand-children; and three greatgrandchildren.

            A memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 2216 Metairie Road, Metairie, Burial will be private. Schoen Funeral Home in Covington is in charge of arrangements.

            Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the memorial service at St. Martin's Episcopal Church, 2216 Metairie Road, Metairie, LA on Monday, December 23, 2002 at 11:00 o'clock A.M. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, family has requested consideration of donations to either St. Martin's Church, 2216 Metairie Road, Metairie, LA 70001 or Jack Lohman at Christwood, 100 Christwood Blvd., Covington, LA 70433, preferred.
