As new information or new pages are added, they will be listed below.
In most cases you will have the option to see the "whole thing" or just the updated page.
Watch for the SEE ALL links to get to the whole section.
Efforts continue to improve navigation and data display.
Unless new data is added this activity will not be mentioned in weekly updates.
Something new will be added with some updates this year.
In the absence of our quarterly, AAFA ACTION, we may add more commentary or narrative to
explain what is being updated, to make it more meaningful, or to inform, educate or maybe even inspire the visitor.
The website really is where the fun is with AAFA now. You can be a part of it. Just ask us with an email to alford_staff@alfordassociation.org.
Significant changes to Louisiana and
Texas cemeteries were received this week from
Carolyn and Lynn and were posted on 5 May. There were also updates posted for
Alabama, Arkansas,
Delaware, Michigan,
Minnesota, and New York.
Anyone, AAFA members or not, can submit Alford (and alternate spellings)
cemetery data to us for inclusion in our data. We now have over 12,500 graves recorded, many
with cross reference links to obituaries and family branch genealogies.
CALIFORNIA Updated

June Schaub, AAFA #1083, for typing them!
Updates were posted on April 19 for
California,
Illinois,
Louisiana,
North Carolina, and
Texas cemeteries.
There are more to come, as several States have major update projects ongoing.
If you would like to help as a State Cemetery Project Officer, or as a member
of a State Cemetery Project team, please let us know.
North Carolina Cemeteries were updated on 26 March. Thank you, Lynn and Gil.
Georgia Cemeteries were updated on 28 March.
This update includes a number of new graves in Harris and Hart Counties. Most of the
Hart County entries are from the Lodwick Alford 1802 SC family branch.
Virginia Cemeteries were updated on 28 March.
The update includes Amhearst County and all the Alford interments in Arlington National Cemetery.
Meeting Photographs
Photgraphs have not been a feature here on the updates page in the past because of the way we have them filed or arranged on the website. They are all part of much more meeting stuff on the meetings page and not easy to link directly to. We are making some changes and will be adding more pictures from meetings past. None of you have complained before, and we have been publishing meeting photos in the quarterly and/or on the website for about 25 years. If you object to our posting yours please let us know. The first set or file from the 2012 Houston meeting was part of the last quarterly and the photo pages posted at the meetings page some time ago. The second set, not published in the quarterly are also linked below. Stand by for more new pictures from old meetings in the near future.

MEMBER MEMORIES
Some of the most precious things that some of us have are memories. They are great and oh so frail.
When we go, they go - they are such an important part of our family and Alford history.
We continue asking you to please record some of your memories and share with us.
Here are two that were recorded some time ago.
NELLIE A Book of Remembrance
Ruth Robinson Sample, AAFA #1056, is a descendant of John Alford 1786 NC.
She provided this in one segment of her book. We will be adding more.
COURT RECORDS
Surprisingly, we have not had this group before, but we are revising the system to handle several of them.
This first one relates to an interesting situation in which the North Carolina Constitution was amended to require
special voting registration in an effort to keep African Americans from voting by using a grandfather clause that
allowed folks to vote based upon their ancestor. The result is that it provides some information that helps us
in determining relationships. See more about it via the link below. We will be making notations in the genealogy
updates to identify these folks.
AAFA GENEALOGIES SEE ALL
We are beginning to systematically update our very large collection of online genealogies. The first two are below.
In the first phase of each update, we will post all the information that has been added to
the file since the last posting. Instead of truncating the most recent generations
to protect the privacy of the living, we will include all persons in the file.
For persons under age 100 who have no death date entered and are presumed living, all of the data (birth, marriage, etc.)
will be replaced with "data excluded."
In the next phase, still some time in the future, we will include links to applicable documents, photographs, obituaries, etc.
Most importantly, we will add corrections and changes that you send us.
KINCHEN b. 1812 NC
This 102 kb file dated (and prepared) Jan 17 2013 replaces a 25 kb file dated Sep 26 2009. It has 11 pages

THOMAS b. 1795 NC
Comparing new vs old data: generations 7 - 3, descendants 327 - 50, pages 21 - 6.
AAFA QUARTERLY SEE ALL
This is an historic event! The very last issue of AAFA ACTION - #98 - is now posted in two versions: one mostly black & white
and one with considerable color. You may read online, print or download (save) the file.
Some of you will be interested to know that it was decided just yesterday that we MIGHT continue with some type of occasional AAFA publication.
We would like to hear your ideas on the subject and will keep you posted here.
