VALDOSTA—Beatrice Alford Parramore, 92, died Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, in Valdosta after a lengthy illness.

            Born on April 30, 1909, in the Parkersville community of Worth County, the daughter of William Leorus Heyward Alford and Lucy Melvina Overby, she had resided in Valdosta for 36 years. She was a charter member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, a member of the DAC and the DAR. She was Director of Nursing with the State of Georgia Department of Public Health in Valdosta before retiring in 1971. Mrs. Parramore served as a public health nurse in Cochran and Columbus with a total of 35 years of service with the State Department of Public Health. She received her public education in Worth and Greene Counties, her registered nursing degree from the Macon Hospital School of Nursing and her Bachelor of Science degree in public health nursing from George Peabody College in Nashville, Tenn. While in Valdosta, she established the First Home Health Care Agency in the State of Georgia.

            Survivors are her stepdaughter; Joanne P. Sykes, Pensacola, Fla; foster children, Sarah Overby Allison, San Bernardino, Calif., Eula Alford Overby and Knox Overby, Jacksonville, Fla., and Sam H. Overby, Chester; sister, Louise Alford Elkin [AAFA #0177], Sun City Center, Fla; brother, Capt. Lodwick H. Alford, USN, retired [AAFA #0011], Sea Island; nephew, Richard S. Sumner and wife Delores of Valdosta.

            She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard H. Parramore, 10 brothers and five sisters.

            Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Valdosta. Burial will be held at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens…. Carson McLane Funeral Home.

            Beatrice consistently used her middle name, but she is Sarah B., age 1, on the 1910 census in Worth Co., GA. She was the daughter of William Leorus “Orus” Haywood Alford and his second wife, Lucy Melvina Overby. Many of the deceased siblings mentioned in the obituary were half-siblings.
