SUMTER [Sumter Co.]—Howard Alford, 84, husband of Audrey McLeod Alford, died Monday, February 13, 2006, in Tuomey Regional Medical Center.

            Born in Bishopville, he was a son of the late Howard Alford, Sr. and the late Vera Carnes Alford.

            Mr. Alford was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. He was a member of the Mission of Men Choir, the Sumter Civic Chorale, a U.S. Army-Air Corps veteran of World War II and had retired from the Sumter Post Office with 38 years of service.

            Surviving are his wife of Sumter; three sons, Mike Alford and wife, Debby, Ricky Alford, Kenneth Alford, all of Sumter; a daughter, Marianne A. Jeffords and husband, Reuben L., of Sumter; six grandchildren, James Alford, Meredith A. West, Ginnie Hardee, Wendi Hardee, Andrew Squires and Patrick Squires; four great-grandchildren, Lorianne Spiegel, Malorie Spiegel, Drew Squires and Cannon West; special friends, Monroe and Lil Brown; a special niece, Ann Dennis, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil Alford, John C. Alford and two sisters, Maggie Rowland and Hazel Dennis.

            Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Walt Kendall officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, James Alford, Andrew Squires, Patrick Squires; two nephews, George and John Rowland and Michael Spiegel.

            Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Mission of Men Choir.

            The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home.
