Mr. Robert Sherwood “Pa”
Alford of Lakeland died Tuesday (Oct. 24, 1995) at Lakeland Regional Medical
Center. He was 71.
Born in Lakeland on Oct.
5, 1924, he moved back to Lakeland after retiring from the Air Force, where he
worked in communications. He served in the Armed Guard Unit of the U.S. Navy in
World War II. He was on the USS Water Camp and survived seven days in the Indian
Ocean after the ship was sunk. He served in the Army during the Korean War and
the Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a Baptist.
He is survived by his
sisters, Renna Roach, Dorothy “Polly” Lobdell, Hilda “Sue” Lobdell and Ruth
Canup, all of Lakeland.
Visitation will be from 6
to 8 tonight at Lanier Funeral Home, 717 Griffin Road, Lakeland. Services will
be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

died Tuesday at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. A native of Lakeland, he

he never married. He has the rare distinction of having served in the Navy, the
Army and the Air Force. I am quite proud of him.”
