RALEIGH—Cecil C. Alford went to his God, July 2, 2011 at Rex Hospital. He was born to Johnnie W. and Susie Brantley Alford of Pilot and Zebulon respectively, September 30, 1920. He retired from the US Air Force after 23 years of active duty plus 16 years in the Air Force Reserve, having served throughout the world during World War II, Korean and the Vietnam Conflict. He received many decorations including the Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters. Cecil was an avid, prominent bowler and promoter of the game. He was a member of both the North Carolina Bowling Hall of Fame and a charter member of the Raleigh Bowling Hall of Fame. He served the NC Bowling Association for over 20 years. He was a life member and served in the position of President, Vice President and Director. During his more than 39 years of active participation with the Raleigh Bowling Association he contributed much to the local association when he held the office of President, Secretary-Treasurer and other positions. Additionally, he taught bowling at UNC for one year. Cecil was an active member of St. James United Methodist Church since 1964.

            Funeral Service: 2:00 pm, Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545 by his personal friend, Reverend John White, former Pastor of St. James United Methodist.

            Burial: Zebulon Town Cemetery with Full Military Honors.

            Surviving include his wife, Leona Hannah Alford; sons: David C. Alford (Judi) of Newport News, VA, Lawrence C. Alford (Marilyn) of Kernersville; 4 granddaughters and 9 great-grandchildren; Cecil was blessed with 3 step-sons and their children and grandchildren.

            Cecil was preceded in death by his first wife, Theda (Teddy) Privette and all of his brothers and his sister.

            His family wishes to extend their special thanks to Faye Alford and Braxton Johnson, two of his dear friends who extended him many courtesies during his life, as well as Dr. Anant Soni, his physician.

            The family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service and Crematory, 944 Old Knight Road, Knightdale, NC 27545.

            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to St. James United Methodist Church, 3808 St. James Church Road, Raleigh, NC 27604.
