LOMPOC RECORD

Lompoc, Santa Barbara Co., CA—17 February 2013

Edward Doyle Alford of Tehachapi passed away Jan. 16, 2013 of natural causes. He was born Nov. 19, 1935 in Chandler, OK to Otis and Mildred Alford, and like “The Grapes of Wrath” during the Great Depression, they moved to Salinas, CA when he was an infant.

Ed was a survivor. His life’s journey took him from Salinas to Santa Monica where he started a family before putting down roots in Lompoc. There, he did upholstery and worked at a muffler shop before opening a custom car shop- Chassis Engineering. He moved to the Santa Maria area, where he was a car salesman and licensed building contractor for many years before becoming disabled.

The recipient of heart and kidney transplants, Ed was given the generous gift of life by anonymous organ donors, to whom we give eternal thanks. His final journey brought him to the mountains of Tehachapi, where the quiet serenity and beautiful view overlooking Bear Valley provided him absolute peace.

Many, many family members will miss his wide smile and presence, but we all know he is at long last free of pain.

Ed is survived by his wife Jan; brothers Denis (Patricia) of Kennewick, WA, and David (Phyllis) of Goldsboro, NC; children- James of Grover Beach, Lonnie (Lisa) of Santa Barbara, Karen of Fayetteville, AR, Alan (Jenny) of Galt, Debbie (Kim) of Ozark, MO, step-son Kenny (Diane) of Tehachapi, daughter-in-law Cheryl of Santa Maria; grandchildren, Shaun, Michael (Krissy), Jarah, Cameron (Amanda), Athena, Brittney, Ruben, Samantha, Kaycee, Madison, and Devin; great-grandchildren, Sandra, Halie, Lio, and Leira.

Ed was pre-deceased by father Otis, mother Mildred, step-mother Billie, sister Donna, brother-in-law Terry, and step-son Daniel.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
