            Doris N. Ross Johnston, 78, of Grand Prairie, Texas, died May 3. She was born to the late Los Charlie and Reta (Wilks) Ross on May 27, 1935, in Burnet. Doris graduated from Burnet High School in 1952, then attended Draughon's Business College. She married the late Raymond H. Brock in 1954, and they lived together in Cleveland, Ohio until their divorce in 1974. She married Charles L. Johnston in 1980, divorcing in 1982.

            Doris retired from the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, Dallas, where she was the assistant to the chairman.

            She loved to travel and read, and she was an avid genealogist, publishing Wilks & Young Families: Texas Pioneers and creating an online website entitled OurTexasFamily. She was a member of the Jane Wells Woods Chapter, Daughters of the Republic of Texas; General Levi Casey Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution; Thomas Poe Chapter, Daughters of American Colonists; John Cavet Chapter, U.S. Daughters of 1812; Mid-Cities Bluebonnet Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy.

            Doris is survived by four children: Danny Brock of Burnet, Becky Hilton (husband Tony) of Euless, Texas, Steven Brock of Grand Prairie, and Glen Brock of Melbourne, Australia; six grandchildren, Brian and Julie Hilton, Danny and Jamie Brock, Danielle Thacker-Richardson and Andrea Brock; two great-grandchildren, Amber and Cheyenne; brothers Jerry V. Ross of Burnet and Monte K. Ross of Georgetown. Family was of great importance to Doris, and she was blessed to have close ties with many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.

            Family visitation will be at the Vanderveer St. Church of Christ Fellowship Hall from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Friday, May 23, with burial immediately following at the Burnet Cemetery.

            In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Daughters of the Republic of Texas Library, P.O. Box 1401, San Antonio, TX 78295.
