Below, please find those members of the AAFA who have had the honor of being proclaimed a Distinguished Member. A Distinguished Member is one who makes significant contributions to the goals and purposes of the Alford American Family Association by taking on tasks that are essential to preserving the history of the Alford name and doing so in a manner far above that of just being a member. After each name there appears a brief description of what that individual (or individuals) did in that particular year.

2002
1)
Earline Alford AAFA 0230 was honored for her work in
arranging and, in some cases, making the items used as door prizes as well as
some raffle prizes. She also manages, along with the help of Jan Alford and Buzz
Vetri, the raffle held at the meeting. She prepares the membership certificates
as well. She also assists with the mailing of renewal notices each quarter.
2) Jim and Sue Adams AAFA 1129 were presented a certificate for their superb work as editors of AAFA ACTION. They have worked long and hard to get the quarterly back on schedule and are very close to succeeding. Much is owed this couple for stepping forward when the AAFA was in desperate need of help.
4) Henry and Sharon Klehm AAFA 1080 for their work in support of the AAFA Treasurer, Doris Vetri, were also recognized. Although Sharon and Henry have not been able to attend a meeting yet, they have pitched in and have been a tremendous help to Doris. They have even caught some errors made by yours truly when I was doing the dues update. They are to be commended for their work and efforts for the AAFA.
5) Peggy Alford Schuster AAFA 0666 for her work in helping Alicia Houston with the Census Data and for all the research data she had provided AAFA. This lady is heavily involved in promoting the AAFA and pitching in wherever she is needed.
6) Jeanne Singleton AAFA 0249 for her work in distributing the AAFA Action quarterly. This lady is responsible for mailing the quarterly that you receive which means she must receive the quarterlies, place them in envelopes, place stamps on the envelopes and then transport the envelopes to the nearest post office. She also must handle any that are returned because of bad addresses. She researches the address to see if she can find a good address for the member whose quarterly was returned. She does a fantastic job and frequently goes above and beyond what would normally be expected of the quarterly distributor.
2003
1)
Marie Bateman AAFA 1165 who has provided afghans for
prizes in the raffles for the last several years.
2)
Sharon and Henry Klehm AAFA 1080 who have ably
provided back up services to the AAFA Treasurer and assist with the obituaries.
3)
Jan and Elroy Alford AAFA 0563 who have made and
donated various craft items such as bird houses and wooden angels to be used as
raffle and door prizes for many years.
Jan also assists with the selling of raffle tickets and has even
purchased other items which she donated to the AAFA for prizes, while Elroy has
been involved in the project “Alfords in the War of 1812.”
4)
Earline Alford AAFA 0230 who last year agreed to be
responsible for the AAFA Memorial Album which has expanded from one to three
volumes under her care and also prepares membership certificates and cards for
mailing to new members, secures and makes items for the raffle and door prizes,
and sells tickets for the raffle.
2004
1) Sharon and Henry Klehm AAFA 1080 have for many years superbly acted as backup for the Association Treasurer and have maintained complete financial records for any eventuality.
2) Jim and Sue Adams AAFA 1129 have not only superbly edited the AAFA Action quarterly the past several years but have also worked diligently to get the quarterly back on a regular schedule and have made significant progress toward this end.
3) Thomas H. Donnelly AAFA 0670 has during the past year contributed significantly to the AAFA census project, especially for the decade of 1870, as well as many other units. His contribution to the census extraction project has been invaluable to furthering this work.

Patricia Fite AAFA 0070
has during the past year contributed significantly to the AAFA Obituary Project
by subscribing to an obituary service, ObitMessenger,
and regularly searching for any and all Alford obituaries from all over the
nation and providing any that she finds to the AAFA.
Her contribution to the collection of Alford obituaries has been invaluable to
furthering this work.
5) Evelyn Mistich AAFA 0481 has during the past year provided backup for the Treasurer and served as the 2004 meeting registrar handling all registrations and moneys for the meeting and the tours.

3) Evelyn Mistich AAFA 0481 has during the past year served as Secretary of the AAFA, provided backup for the Treasurer and served as the 2008 meeting registrar handling all registrations and moneys for the meeting and the tours as well as doing deposits and providing valuable support to the meetings coordinator.
4) Charles Walter “Walt” Smith 1247 has during the past year served as a member of the official AAFA Photography Staff as he has done for many years, provided technical assistance to others in preparation of presentations for the meeting, and has always helped with the setting up for the meeting and the tearing down and packing up after the meeting.

1) June Kay Schaub AAFA 1083 has during the past year not only extracted or downloaded from various Internet sites over 1100 records of Alford burials in Arizona, California, and Florida as well as Alford Social Security data in Florida and North Carolina but also keyed the data into databases.

George Wayne Parrish AAFA 1254 has during the past year taken over the task of managing many of the AAFA databases, has assisted with not only compiling but actively engaging in the AAFA cemetery research, has gone way beyond what has been asked of him and takes great initiative in his research work and has also been elected to the AAFA Board of Directors.
