AAFA NOTES: This was the Bible of Charles F. Alford and wife Laura Virginia Crox. Charles F. was the youngest son of Robert Cannon Alford and his second wife Margaret J. Mourfield. They are descendants of John Alford and Jane McElhattan who married in Grainger County, TN, on Jan 13, 1811. John was an 18-year-old orphan (born in NC) bound out to Thomas Mann in November, 1804, also in Grainger County, TN. Efforts to discover his parents have not been successful thus far. There are several other east TN families that appear closely related but no connections have been proved yet. Benjamin F. Alford whose birth is listed here was the father of AAFA past President Benjamin F. Alford, Jr., AAFA Member #447.
