WILL OF JOHN ALFORD
State of Tennessee Davidson County -- I John Alford being of sound mind and
sound health do on this twenty fifth day of
September in the year of our Lord, eighteen hundred and thirty four make this
my last will and testament in the manner and form
following--
I do first bequeath to my daughter Permelia Hughes and her heirs my negro woman
Virgin and her three children Maria George
and Anthoney. The balance of my estate both real & personal I wish to be
equally divided among my heirs viz: Permelia
Hughes, Sarah Bibb, John B. Alford, Nelson E. Alford, Elizabeth Hughs, William
Alford, also the heirs of my son George W.
Alford are to be entitled to a seventh part of my estate-- The amount of notes
I hold against Robert Hughs is to be deducted
from the part of Permelia Hughs and the amount of notes I hold against William
Hughs is to be deducted from the portion of
Elizabeth Hughs also the amount of notes I hold against Sarah Bibb, John B.
Alford, and Nelson E. Alford, are to be deducted
from the portion of each one-- It is my wish that my negroes should not be sold
but divided among my heirs. I also wish the rest
of my property & my land to be sold & divided among my heirs.
Lastly, I appoint William Alford, Junius Williams, and Henry Crichlow my Executors--

STATE OF TENNESSEE, DAVIDSON COUNTY,
I, R. E. Worrall, Clerk of the County Court of Davidson County, State aforesaid,
do certify that the foregoing is a full, true, and
complete photostatic copy of a paper writing purporting to be the last will
and testament of John Alford, probated July 6, 1838,
of record in Will Book 11, page 189. which remains of record on file in my office.
Given under my hand and official seal, at office, in Nashville, this 22nd day
of October, 1958.
