AAFA Wills
WILL OF JULIUS ALFORD
In the Name of God Amen, the 14th day of July 1768. I Julius Alford of St.
Johns Parish & in the County of Bute being very
sick and weak but of Perfect mind & memory thanks be given unto God for
the same, and calling to mind the mortality of my
body, and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and
ordain this my Last will & Testament that is to
Say, Principally and first of all I give & Recommend my Soul into the hands
of God that gave it, and for my body I recommend
it to the Earth to be buried in a Christian Like & decent manner at the
discretion of my Executors nothing doubting but at the
General Resurrection, I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of
God, and as touching such worldly Estate
wherewith it hath Pleased God to bless me in this Life, I give devise and dispose
of the same in manner and form following, that
is to say.
In the first place I give and bequeath to my dearly beloved wife Lucy, one
horse bridle & Saddle, one feather bed & furniture
to her and her heirs forever.
Also I give to my wellbeloved Son John Alford, all my Land and Plantation lying
in the County of Bute and on the South side
Crooked Creek and also the Land on the North side Crooked Creek above Ferrills
Road, with Six Cows Calves, Six Sows
and Piggs & one breeding mare to him and his heirs forever.
Also I give to my welbeloved son Isaac the Land and Plantation lying on the
North side Crooked Creek below Farrills road to
the mouth of Wright branch, together with Six Cows & Calves, Six Sows &
Piggs and one breeding mare to him and his heirs
forever.
Item I give to my welbeloved Son Goodrich the land plantation whereon John
Rose now lives, and if in Case the said John
Rose should pay for the said Land, according to his bargain that, that money
so arising to be for his Own use & benefit together
with all the Stock of hoggs & Cattle, as the said John Rose has now in possession
to him and his heirs forever.
Item I give to my welbeloved son Jacob the Land & plantation whereon I
now live lying on both sides Tarr River, together with
Six Cows and Calves Six Sows and Piggs & one breeding mare to him and his
heirs forever.
Item I give to my welbeloved son Job fifty pounds Virginia money together with
Six Cows and Calves, Six Sows and Piggs and
one breeding mare to him and his heirs forever.
Item I give to my welbeloved Daughter Patty one feather bed & Furniture
and one breeding mare to her & her heirs forever.
Item I give to my welbeloved Daughter Sarah one feather bed and furniture,
and one breeding mare to her & her heirs forever.
And, also my will and Desire is that my whole Estate I lend unto my welbeloved
wife Lucy during her Life or widowhood and
all the profits and benefits arising to be laid out in its keeping, maintaining
and Schooling of my Children, and after her decease
or widowhood to be Equally Divided between all my Children and if any of my
aforementioned Children should die without
issue, that their aforesaid Legacy be Equally divided between all my Children;
And I Likewise
Constitute make and Ordain my dear beloved brother Lodwick Alford, and his
son James Alford my, Only & Sole Executors
of this my last will and Testament, Ratifying & Confirming this and no other
to be my last will and Testament.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & Seal the day & year
first above witten.

Bute County November Court 1771
This Last will of Julius Alford, deceased, was presented in Court by Lodwick
Alford & James Alford the Executors herein
named who made oath thereto, and the same being proved by the Oaths of James
Alford and Thomas Gay two of the
witnesses the same is admitted to Record & Letters Testamentary was granted
to the said Lodwick Alford and James Alford
who was Qualified accordingly.
