WILL OF SION ALFORD
In the name of God Amen
I Sion Alford of the State of North Carolina and County of Robeson being of
Sound mind and memory, Blessed be God for
the Same, do this the Twenty Eighth day of November in the year of our Lord
one thousand Eight Hundred and thirty one
declare and publish this my last will and Testament in form and manner following.
First I Give & bequeath to my Sons Wiley Alford and James J. Alford the
Land whereon I now live Including Six Hundred &
Forty Six acres, and also I Give and bequeath to the Said Wiley and James J.
Alford one Tract of Land containing Two
Hundred acres on the East Side of the Big Bay, And likewise I Give & bequeath
to my Son Warren Alford Two Hundred
acres of land the upper part of the Danily Tract runing across Said land as
the old Danily road runs on the West Side of the first
Swamp and across Said Swamp to the East Side then down Said Swamp untill the
Said Two Hundred acres are made out with
a line direct to the back line.
Also I Give and bequeath to my Son William Alford all the land whereon he now
lives on the West Side of the first Swamp
extending to the run of Said Swamp and below the line described in the former
Piece,
Also I Give & bequeath to my Son John W. Alford all the land on the East
Side of the first Swamp extending to the run of Said
Swamp and to the boundary line as described in Warren Alfords land, Also I Give
and bequeath to my Sons Warren, William
and John W. Alford all my part of a Tract of land in Shoe heal Swamp adjoining
the Richmond line Archibald Hendersons and
Peter Nicholsons Land;
Also I Give & bequeath unto my Son in law John B. Brown all my land on
the East Side Shoe heal Swamp whereon he now
lives containing three Hundred & Twenty three acres. provided he the Said
John B. Brown pay to the Said Warren, William
and John W. Alford one Hundred Dollars with Interest from the time he has been
in possession of the Said land untill paid, and
in case he fail to pay the Said one Hundred Dollars with the Interest as named
above, then the Said land to be equally divided
between the Said Warren, William & John W. Alford.
Also I Give & bequeath unto the Heirs of John Drake which he had by his
wife Elizabeth, Albrittain I. (J.) Drake excepted my
negroe Girl Nel, and all her Increase which negroe Girl is to be hired out untill
James Drake arive to age and then She and her
Increase and the procedes of her hire to be equally divided among the Said Heirs
which are not Excepted,
Also I Give & bequeath to my Grand Son Albrittain I. (J.) Drake my negroe
boy by the name of Joe.
Also I Give and bequeath unto John Drake five Dollars exclusive of that which
he has had,
Also I Give & bequeath to my daughter Mary Baker wife of John Baker and
the Heirs of her body my negroe Girl by the name
of Lydia,
Also I Give and bequeath to my Son Warren Alford My Negroe Man by the name
of Charles and my negroe boy by the name
of Sam, and my negroe boy named Henry.
Also I Give & bequeath to my daughter Susannah Brown wife of John B. Brown
and the Heirs of her body my negroe Girl by
the name of Rheny.
Also I Give and bequeath to my Daughter Katharine McKay wife of John McKay
and the Heirs of her body my negroe Girl by
the name of Chain
Also I Give and bequeath to my Son William Alford my negroe man by the name
of Peter my negroe Woman by the name of
Binah and my negroe boy by the name of Jim, and as many cattle as the Worth
of three cows & calves,
Also I Give & bequeath to my Son Wiley Alford my negroe man by the name
of Jes my negroe Woman by the name of Plesant
and my negroe Girl by the name of Hannah, and my negroe boy named Daniel.
Also I Give and bequeath to my Son James J. Alford my negroe woman by the name
of Minty my negroe boy by the name of
Tom and my negroe Girl by the name of olive, and my negroe boy named Frank.
Also I Give and bequeath to my daughter Ann H. Blue wife of Alexander Blue
and the Heirs of her body my negroe Girl by the
name of Sal and as many cattle as the worth of three cows & calves and one
Bed and Furniture,
Also I Give & bequeath to my Son John W. Alford my negroe boy named Nat
my negroe boy by the name of Major and my
negroe boy by the name of Dick and as many Cattle as the worth of three Cows
& calves and one Bed and Furniture.
Also I Give & bequeath to my Son Warren Alford one Bed & Furniture.
I also Desire that my Sons Wiley and James J. Alford take care of and Support
an old negroe Woman named Peg her life time
which negroe is on the place where I now live,
I also make It obligatory that my Sons Wiley and James J. Alford pay all my
Just debts and in consideration of their being
bound to pay the Same I therefore Give and bequeath to them all the debts which
are due me and all my money which I have
or may have and all my Stock of every description consisting of Horses Cattle
Hogs & Sheep and also my Still and Clock with
all my house Furniture together with all my Perrishable property of every description
that has not heretofore been devised, and I
likewise Give & bequeath to my Sons Wiley & James J. Alford all my crop
of corn & meat.
I also Desire that my Executors pay ten Dollars to the Robeson County Bible
Society after my death.
I also desire that my Sons Wiley and James J. Alford Get two Sets of Tomb Stones
and erect them for me and their Mother.
And I do hereby appoint and ordain my Sons Wiley & James J. Alford Executors
to this my last Will and Testament.
In Witness whereof I hereunto Set my hand & affix my Seal the day &
year being before written.
