AAFA Biographies and Autobiographies of "Alfords"
This file was last updated May 19, 2013.
A major purpose of AAFA is to document the history of our family. In support of this effort, we collect
biographies of historical "Alfords." These are found in books, periodicals, and
sometimes unpublished documents. County histories are great sources.
We also want to preserve the history of present day AAFA members whose name is Alford (or a spelling variation), as well as
"Alford" ancestors of members. You can make a positive and worthwhile contribution to AAFA and
Alford history by participating in this project.
Here's what you can do:
1. If your last name or maiden name is Alford (or, of course, a spelling variation), write your autobiography.
2. If your father's last name is Alford, write his biography (or ask him to). His siblings are also great subjects for biographies.
3. If your father's name was not Alford, write a biography of your most recent Alford ancestor: mother, grandparent, etc.
4. When you find a biography or biographical sketch of an historical Alford, make a copy.
Send or email your document to AAFA for publication here and/or in AAFA ACTION. There is no limit on length
and there is no particular format. Look at the autobiographies and biographies below for inspiration.
Suggested subjects to be included are early childhood interests;
education at all levels; hobbies from childhood to present; participation in various organizations; military service
in sufficient detail to identify units served with, assignment stations, duties, etc.; religious affiliation and service performed;
vocation, occupations, talents, skills; medical history; physical descriptions; places of residence and property ownerships;
and anything else that might come to mind.
If you include photographs, please send copies (not originals unless absolutely necessary).
All photos will be returned.
We hope all AAFA members will consider this project a wonderful way to share in the
preservation of our Alford heritage for posterity!
